EduQ brings together the expertise and academic offering of the InstituteQ partners to provide the best possible education in the fields of quantum science and technology. Get in touch with our coordinators if you want to discuss the education opportunities and to network with like-minded people.
Higher Education & Researcher Training
Quantum science and technology study opportunities for BSc and MSc
More details
The InstituteQ partner institutions provide versatile study opportunities in quantum science and technology for Bachelor’s and Master’s students. Students can integrate quantum-related studies into their degree within the flexibility of the programme’s structure. This allows building a comprehensive and multidisciplinary skillset in quantum that meets the demands of the evolving working life.
Cross-institutional studies in quantum science and technology
More details
InstituteQ coordinates quantum-related cross-institutional study agreements between the partner institutions. These agreements allow students of the institutions to cross-study quantum technology courses. The aim of the agreements is to broaden the selection of quantum-related studies available to students and enhance student mobility between the institutions.
The full course list, as well as instructions for the cross-institutional registration procedure between Aalto University and University of Helsinki, are published on the QuantEd webpage.
Doctoral studies in quantum science and technology
More details
InsituteQ hosts roughly 200 doctoral students within the Quantum Doctoral programme (QDOC) funded by the ministry of education and Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. Doctoral training is carried out in our participating research groups working on various topics in quantum science and technology.
Industrial doctorates
More details
Our doctorates can also pursue their research and studies in close collaboration with industry. Research topics range from fundamental science to applied research, and the research is supported and hosted by SAAB, Nokia industrial doctoral school in Quantum Technologies, IQM, and Algorithmiq.
Lifelong Learning & Outreach
Open university courses
More details
Some quantum-related courses are offered to general public by open universities. You may browse the open study opportunities in the Opin.fi service.
If you are interested in learning the very basics of modern science, including quantum mechanics and relativity, we recommend you check out Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Kvanttimekaniikkaa ja suhteellisuusteoriaa yleissivistävästi (in Finnish) by an InstituteQ partner, the University of Jyväskylä.
Those interested in studying quantum computing essentials can register for the three-part course ABCs of Quantum Computing, also by the University of Jyväskylä.

Executive education and upskilling
More details
To raise the quantum-readiness of Finnish society, InstituteQ is working to retrain and upskill the existing workforce to face the quantum future. Currently, we organize executive education in collaboration with Aalto University Executive Education and Professional Development, which focuses on educating current executives, the next generation of leaders, and experts with an impact on business and society.
Outreach
More details
InstituteQ is working on organizing open-access training programs to educators and public sector personnel, as well as the promotion of public awareness campaigns about quantum science and technology.
For anyone interested in learning the basics of quantum, we recommend the first course in ABCs of Quantum Computing, available in several languages.
We offer opportunities also for high schools. If you are interested in exploring these possibilities, such as a researcher-led lesson on quantum science and technology at your school, please reach out to our coordinators.
International Collaboration
InstituteQ is involved in multiple international educational collaborations. Our current and past partnerships are listed below.

InstituteQ is participating in the transformation of quantum technology education at the university level through the DigiQ project.
EU project number 101083405.
Duration 11/2022–9/2026.

InstituteQ participates in the development of new quantum technology courses for industry within the QTIndu project.
EU project number 101100757.
Duration 1/2023–12/2025.

Nordic Quantum is a network, based at Nordita, whose goal is to strengthen the Nordic region as a global hotspot for quantum science, technology, and education. It aims to increase visibility and facilitate collaboration across the field.
Industry engagement

Qplaylearn is formed by a team of scientists and communicators on a mission to teach the beauty of quantum science and inform about the impact of quantum technologies to everyone.

IQM Academy is a quantum education platform by IQM Quantum Computers offering high-quality resources to make both theoretical and practical quantum concepts accessible to learners, educators, researchers, and industry professionals.
