1. Cross-institutional studies in Quantum Science and Technology

Aalto University and the University of Helsinki have signed a cross-institutional studies agreement (“QuantEd agreement”) that allows students of selected degree programmes to sign-up for quantum-related courses organized by the other institution. The aim of the agreement is to broaden the selection of quantum-related studies available to students and enhance student mobility between the two institutions.

The agreement concerns Aalto University students of the following Master’s programmes:

  • Master’s Programme in Automation and Electrical Engineering
  • Master’s Programme in Electronics and Nanotechnology
  • Master’s Programme Engineering Physics
  • Master’s Programme in Mathematics and Operations Research

and doctoral students in the fields of:

  • Engineering Physics
  • Photonics and Nanotechnology
  • Radio Science and Engineering.

At the University of Helsinki, the agreement concerns the students in all the Master’s and doctoral programmes in the Faculty of Science as well as the students of the following Bachelor’s programmes:

  • Bachelor’s Programme in Physical Sciences
  • Bachelor’s Programme in Science

The studies are not available for exchange students.

Below you can find the list of courses included in the agreement as well as the instructions for applying a study right on courses.

1.1 Courses offered as cross-institutional studies

Aalto University and University of Helsinki offer a comprehensive list of quantum-related courses through the QuantEd agreement. The above-mentioned students may apply for a study right on these courses in the other institution.

You can browse the course information in Sisu (e.g., course level, content, prerequisites, contact information of the responsible teachers) as well as the up-coming course implementations (choose the “Completion methods” tab) by clicking the course name. Most of the courses are primarily taught in English. The list of Aalto University includes both intermediate level (Bachelor) and advanced level (Master) courses, whereas all the University of Helsinki courses are advanced level courses.

Please note that not all the courses are offered every academic year.

Please also note that the teaching periods are different for the University of Helsinki and Aalto University.
