Nine leading Finnish quantum science and technology institutions signed on August 13 the InstituteQ Collaboration Agreement, thus establishing a new, larger InstituteQ membership base.
Leaders from these organizations gathered in Espoo to ceremoniously sign the agreement. The agreement serves as a commitment from all parties involved to collaborate in the coordination of quantum science and technology, including the development of training programs, workforce education, national infrastructure development and collaboration with companies in the development of quantum technologies.
The signing agreement includes the following organizations in InstituteQ’s membership base:
- Aalto University
- CSC – IT Center for Science
- Tampere University
- The University of Eastern Finland
- The University of Helsinki
- The University of Jyväskylä
- The University of Oulu
- The University of Turku
- VTT Research Centre of Finland
“We would like to thank the teams from all organisations for their participation over the last few months in making this expansion of InstituteQ possible. We are mutually made better by joining forces to elevate Finland’s expertise in quantum science and technology research, development and education. This signing agreement is a critical step forward in achieving this shared goal,” says InstituteQ Director Jukka Pekola.
The newly established InstituteQ is in the company of familiar colleagues: all parties involved are participants in the Quantum Doctoral Education Pilot (QDOC), and many also are members of the Finnish Quantum Flagship.
This InstituteQ expansion comes timely as the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment published in April its Quantum Technology Strategy. The document serves as a 10-year roadmap for Finnish companies, research and education institutions and ministries of government to sharpen their competitive edge in the global quantum landscape.
InstituteQ plays a critical role in the execution of the Quantum Technology Strategy. Specifically, InstituteQ’s core functions cover the national coordination of quantum research, education, infrastructure, innovation and international cooperation endeavours.
