This InstituteQ Colloquium features IBM Principal Research Scientist and Technical lead in Quantum Antonio Mezzacapo. The title of his talk is “Recent quantum algorithms for the ground state problem”.”
When: 15:30-16:30, 13.11.2023
Where: Hall A111, Exactum Building, Kumpula Campus of the University of Helsinki, Pietari Kalmin katu 5, 00560 Helsinki
Chair: Marco Cattaneo, Department of Physics at the University of Helsinki
Guest speaker
Mezzacapo is a principal research scientist and technical lead for applied quantum computing at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, working on quantum algorithms to address hard problems in different areas. He is also interested in models for the physics of superconducting quantum processors and quantum software.
From Antonio Mezzacapo: What is your talk about?
“I will talk about quantum algorithms based on Krylov subspaces, showing how they can be used to address the ground state problem for interacting quantum systems. These algorithms range from a unitary version of the power method, which can be used on near-term devices, up to our recent result about an exact quantum implementation of the Lanczos method with an exponential speedup.”
